Introduction
When profit is under pressure, most companies cut costs or push for more sales. Both work, slowly. The fastest lever is almost always price.
The Math Nobody Shows You
Imagine a business with $5M in revenue and a 10% profit margin: $500,000 a year.
Raise prices by 5% and keep the same customers, and an extra $250,000 drops straight to the bottom line. Profit grows by half, without a single new hire or marketing campaign.
To get the same result by cutting costs, you would need to cut more than $250,000 in spending. To get it through volume, you would need to sell 50% more.
Where To Find Pricing Power
- Packages: offer a premium tier with more service, speed, or support, and let customers choose it.
- Annual plans: trade a small discount for a year of committed revenue.
- New customers first: introduce new prices for new buyers and move existing ones over with notice.
- Remove discounts: most discounting is a habit, not a strategy.
Protect The Relationship
Raising prices is not about squeezing customers. Explain what has improved, give people time, and keep delivering more value than you charge.
Customers rarely leave over a fair price increase. They leave when they stop feeling looked after.
