The brief
“It’s the first thing anyone sees and it felt like a dentist’s waiting room.”
How we did it
The hall at the Old Vicarage is four metres tall and lit by one pendant. We painted the walls a warm stone that looks good in daylight and lamplight, then picked out the spindles, handrail and a run of cupboards under the stairs in a deep navy.
A woven pendant, a round mirror on a leather strap and a coat bench by the door make it a room rather than a corridor. Wall lights up the stairs mean nobody has to climb in the dark any more.
What we did
- Walls, woodwork and stair painted in two colours
- Woven pendant and four wall lights
- Cupboard under the stairs for coats and shoes
- Runner on the stairs and a new doormat well
