\u201cI wanted one brave thing in the room and everything else calm. My partner wanted to be able to sleep in it.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/div>

How we did it<\/p><\/div>

Hannah sent us a photo of an orange velvet sofa and said she wanted that feeling in the bedroom without it keeping anyone awake. We kept the walls a warm white and put all the colour into one place: a tall scalloped headboard in burnt-orange velvet, made to measure.<\/p><\/div>

Sage and white bedding, a sunburst mirror and two brass lamps on oak bedside tables finish it. The room cost less than most people spend on a sofa, because most of the furniture was already there and only needed moving.<\/p><\/div>
