For candidates

What to actually ask at the end of an interview

Skip the questions you think you are supposed to ask. These four tell you whether you actually want the job.

Ask about the last person

Ask what happened to the last person in the role. If they were promoted, good sign. If nobody wants to answer, that is an answer too.

Ask what the first ninety days look like

A good manager will have thought about it. A vague answer usually means the role has not been properly defined yet.

And always ask about the next step

Ask when you will hear back and from whom. It sets a clear expectation and tells you a lot about how organised they are.
