The brief
“I wanted one brave thing in the room and everything else calm. My partner wanted to be able to sleep in it.”
How we did it
Hannah sent us a photo of an orange velvet sofa and said she wanted that feeling in the bedroom without it keeping anyone awake. We kept the walls a warm white and put all the colour into one place: a tall scalloped headboard in burnt-orange velvet, made to measure.
Sage and white bedding, a sunburst mirror and two brass lamps on oak bedside tables finish it. The room cost less than most people spend on a sofa, because most of the furniture was already there and only needed moving.
